Creating a Flex AIR Annotator app Part 20

Today we will make it possible to actually save pictures.

First, find the "Export file" button in the saveWindow TitleWindow container, and add another click event handler for it - startExport().

This will be the function that will manage saving.

Inside of it, we will first declare 5 variables - encoder (IImageEncoder), byteArray (ByteArray), file (File, fileStream (FileStream) and bd (BitmapData).

Then we check what export format is selected. If it is jpg, then set encoder to a new JPEGEncoder object with parameter selectedQuality. If it is png, set encoder to a new PNGEncoder object.

Next, we draw all the stuff into a BitmapData:

bd = new BitmapData(content.width, content.height, false);

Then, we use the encoder object to encode our bitmap data into the needed format and set the value to byteArray:

byteArray = encoder.encode(bd);

Use our file variable to open the browse for save window and add an Event.SELECT event listener with handler saveSelect:

The saveSelect function is an internal function inside of startExport. It goes like this:

It basically saves the file with the correct extension. If the file already exists, ask to overwrite, call onCloseOverwrite if the user chooses "yes":

Creating a Flex AIR text editor Part 69

In this tutorial we finish our Recent files feature.

Firstly lets edit the addRecent() function to add a piece of code which checks if a recent item with the same location as the new item exists, if it does - remove it. This way, the new recent clone remains the only one copy and is put on top.

Now lets change something in the displayRecent() function.

Firstly lets change the way we remove the contents of the recentXML node. We use the setChildren() method of the node to set its children to one empty node and then remove that only node.

Also, in the end of the function, add a conditional which sets the enabled property of the XML node depending on whether it has any children or not:

The recent ones have the location attribute set, we can check its existence like this and then call a function called selectRecent() and passing the location as the parameter:

The selectRecent() function is simple enough - we already have the loadFile() function which loads a file when we pass it a File object with the location. All we need to do is check if this file exists before loading it:

Creating a Flex AIR Screenshot app Part 21

In this tutorial we will start making the resize functionality.

First, we have to draw 4 pictures for the resize cursors. Here are the ones I made in photoshop (19x19 each):

Put them all in the lib directory of your project folder.

Declare these cursor classes:

You can guess that these are similar to drawing/dragging and inDragArea.

Go to drawDown() and add checks for inResizeArea values like this:

Go to drawUp() and set resizing to false, just like drawing and dragging:

Now we can begin adding the code that checks where the users mouse is and set the cursor accordingly. Go to drawMove() function and find the if(!drawing && !dragging) conditional. Here well add a pretty long series of if() conditionals. Normally, using a lot of ifs is frowned upon in the programming world, and it is often said that using switch-cases is better in these situations. This time, though, I decided that using ifs will be better and take less space than if we used switch cases. The reason to that is because were not just using this if-else series for resizing cursors only. We check if the cursor should be any of the resize ones, and if not, we continue to perform other checks to determine what our cursor should be. This includes the drag and draw cursors too.

First, add a "!resizing" to the conditional:

After the removeAllCursors() line, declare a variable, which holds a value of the distance from the line that would be considered a hit area for that line. I set it to 8, but you can change it to whatever you want:

Now, lets start the condition chain.

Firstly, we check if the mouse coordinates are in the area top left corner area (8px distance). We use this by calculating the distance between coordinates of the mouse and coordinates of the corner point and comparing its absolute value with the distance. If that point falls in the area - set the cursor to reizeDiag2Cursor, inDragArea to false and inResizeArea to true:

Now we have to check the lines. Check the top horizontal line first. The x coordinate of the mouse should be between the two top corners x values (we dont need to add distance here because corner collision will overlap it anyways), check Y mouse value like you do with the corners:
